Venice was magic. One of my favourites without a doubt. It was so easy to wander and get lost down all the little laneways, discovering so many beautiful spots around every corner. The shops were beautiful, the food divine, and the colours were dazzling. Having all that surrounded by water made the whole place just a dream.
While I was there I visited the island of Murano where Venetian glass has its home and watched glassblowing being done. I also really enjoyed Palazzo Ducale, a 14th century palace that was once the heart of political life and public administration for the Venetian Republic. Another favourite was the Peggy Guggenheim collection of modern art, housed at her home (a Venetian palace of course). The rooms have all been emptied and it’s now a gallery with a beautiful sculpture garden in the middle – also the place where her ashes lie!
