TONGARIRO NATIONAL PARK

In the spirit of summer and seeing more of our own backyard, we decided to walk the Tongariro Crossing over Waitangi weekend (along with the rest of New Zealand and half of Germany’s youth).

We drove up on Friday after work and stayed at the Crossing Backpackers right in the park. Bright and early on Saturday we started the walk.

The walk took us six hours with multiple scroggin breaks and a decent stop for lunch. It felt like another world up there among the blue pools, red earth and bright desert flora.
