MIYAJIMA

From Hiroshima, the tiny island of Miyajima (a Unesco World Heritage Site) was an easy day trip. The island is famous for its torii (shrine) gate out in the water – although we were there at low tide so didn’t quite see the floating effect. Behind the gate there is also a huge floating shrine, hall and stage, all in the bright vermilion colour.

The surrounding streets were really pretty, lots of cheap food vendors & the occasional deer trying to get in on the snacks!
